Bible

One of the basic Mormon beliefs is that, “We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly.”

Do Mormons believe the Bible is less important than the Book of Mormon?

No, of course not.  The Bible is the word of God.  The Bible and Book of Mormon together testify of the divinity of our Savior Jesus Christ and His gospel.  If you attend any meeting in an Mormon Church, you will quickly recognize that the Bible is an integral and foundational part of our beliefs.  In this video clip, Elder M. Russell Ballard, an apostle of the Lord, testifies of the importance of the Holy Bible.

What do you mean “as far as it is translated correctly”?

In today’s religious realm, there are literally hundreds of translations of the Bible.  Some of the most common include the King James Version, the New International Version, etc.

If you have ever read the same scripture in multiple versions, you start to notice how the meaning of a scripture can change based on the translation.  Therefore, to make sure that we are understanding the Word of God as it was intended, we must be careful to only use those translations which most closely represent the original meaning.

What version do Mormons use?

The King James Version of the Bible is the one typically used in personal study and meetings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

You can request a free Bible from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
