You are absolutely correct when you say that God is the judge of man's heart, not another man. We find a confirmation of that truth in 1 Samuel 16: The Lord looketh on the heart.

You are also absolutely correct when you say that Jesus is the only way. Indeed, He is. I believe that with my whole heart. But there are certain steps that we must take in this life in order to follow Jesus. Christ himself was baptized, and if we are to follow Him, than we believe that we, too must be baptized and follow His perfect example.

We can read about the baptism of Christ in the gospels/New Testament,

Luke 3:21 Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that Jesus also being baptized, and praying, the heaven was opened,

In Galatians 3:27 we read, "For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ."

I hope I have helped you understand a little more about what we believe, and why we believe what we do. Thanks for your time, and let me know if you have any questions.

God bless you and your family.

This passage is not about marriage but is about false teachings and bleiefs....interesting that Mormons use this verse for a practice that is not biblical. By the way, God is the judge of man's heart not another man. In addition, baptism is a "work" which is clearly not the way to heaven. Jesus is the only way...
